Joanna Wilkes Barron Blalock, age 86 of Manchester, Georgia entered into the kingdom of heaven with her family by her side at her home on Monday, May 10, 2021.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021 at First Baptist Church Prayer Garden, Manchester, Georgia with Dr. Craig Williamson officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.

Private graveside rites will be held later at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, Georgia.

Jody was born in Newnan, Georgia on July 19, 1934, to Frank Marion "Bo" and Emma Foreman Wilkes Barron. She graduated from Newnan High School in 1952 where she was the MVP of the Girls Basketball team her senior year. She attended the University of Georgia where she met the love of her life, Bob Blalock. They moved to Woodbury GA in 1958 and she became a Cattleman's wife. In 1977, they moved to Athens GA where she later began a job, she loved at UGA Parking Services. She retired in 2009 and moved back home to Manchester GA.

As a member of First Baptist Church of Manchester, she served on various committees, was a member of the Agape Sunday School class and was a former Director of WMU. Jody was proud to be a Trustee of the Manchester Woman's Club, where she most recently served on the Conservation Committee. She was instrumental in the revitalization of the club's Butterfly Garden located near Manchester Mill.

Jody was an avid University of Georgia supporter, long time season ticket holder and the Dawg's biggest cheerleader. In her spare time, she took great pride in working in her yard, flowers were her favorite pastime. After retirement she found a new love for painting and became quite the artist. As a two-time cancer survivor, Jody often participated in cancer support groups. It brought her great joy to share her story with others. She survived cancer for 25 years before being stricken a third time.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert Lewis "Bob" Blalock, Sr., her parents, and her brother- in- law Robert Patrick.

She is survived by her brother Frank M. Barron Jr. and Linda, Newnan GA, sister Emma Laura Barron Patrick, Birmingham, AL, her children Laura Emma Blalock Swetnam and Mike of Manchester GA, Robert Lewis "Bob" Blalock Jr. and Terri of Montgomery TX, Charles William "Chip" Blalock and Donna of Moultrie GA and Jan Barron Blalock Smith and Scott of Lawrenceville, GA. Grandchildren are Leslie Swetnam Jones and Jefferson of Midland GA, Joni Swetnam of Jonesboro GA , Michael Swetnam and Gracia of Ketchikan AK, Marion Blalock Hubbard and David of Montgomery, TX, Robert Blalock III and Caitlin of Kingwood TX, Brandon Gorman and Amanda of Conroe, TX, Brianna Gorman Buckley and Mitch of Montgomery, TX, Bo Blalock of Moultrie GA, Buck Blalock of Athens GA and Piper Smith of Lawrenceville GA. Great grandchildren Elise, Emmie, Ella Rose and Jace Jones and Logan Gorman, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff of Columbus Hospice and the John B. Amos Cancer Center in Columbus. "Their care and attention to Jody was second to none."
