Geraldine " Gerri" Cox
August 21, 1946 - May 1, 2021
Monterey, California - Geraldine Lynne Cox (Gerri), age 74, passed away from cancer on Saturday May 1, 2021 at home in Monterey with her family by her side. She was born August 21, 1946 in Sacramento to La Rue & Kenneth Brown. Gerri was a graduate of Hiram Johnson High School.
In 1965, she married Jim Cox (married 13 years) and together they had one daughter, Debbie Cox. Gerri worked as a Manager for the Department of Motor Vehicles for 35+ years. After retiring, she was called to volunteer at the Mary House, a shelter for homeless women & children. In 2018, Gerri moved to Monterey, her favorite town by the ocean, to be closer to her daughter and son –in-law.
Gerri loved and appreciated life to the fullest through simple pleasures, being with friends & family, music, going out to eat, "puttering" in her backyard, watching a good movie, snuggling her kitties and certainly a good gin & tonic! She loved being a Mother, get-a-ways to the ocean & mountains, wine-tasting, playing games and laughing. Gerri was a loving, caring and generous person, with an irresistible sense of humor. She always wanted to make others happy. She had a strong character & a deep Faith. She was always positive and looked forward to a better tomorrow until God called her home.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Dean) Young; her brother, John (Shirley) Brown; cousins Rick, Stan & Barbara; many sweet nieces, nephews and countless dear lifelong friends. She will be deeply missed but will live on in our hearts.
A celebration of life gathering will be held this summer in Gerri's hometown of Sacramento.
