Mary was born March 23, 1905 in Mason to the late Bird Lee and Palestine Cunningham Armes. She graduated from Jayton High School in 1924 as valedictorian and attended Simmons College in Abilene. On Aug. 7, 1927, she married Jack Shoults. He died in June 1929. She taught school at a number of rural schools before marrying Loyd E. Womack May 12, 1932 in Aspermont. He died in 1973. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to those around her. A devout Christian, she was a member of the Spur Church of Christ for 43 years before moving to Lubbock in 1989. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Bettie Sue Shoults Tollett of Ft. Worth; and two brothers, J.W. of Smyer and Aud of Midwest City, Okla.
She is survived by two daughters, Jerelene and husband, Bob Williams, of Fayetteville, Ark., and Patsy and husband, Clay Bentley, of Banner Elk, N.C.; two sons, Loyd and wife, Judy Womack, of Lubbock and Lyndal and wife, Sharon, of Fort Worth; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Rix Funeral Directors.
