Robert David "Bobby" Koon

Mr. Robert David Koon, known as "Bobby" to all of his family and friends, 64, went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2021 at Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, FL, following a brief illness. Bobby was born May 27, 1956 in Lake City, Florida to Thomas Jackson Koon and Sallie Lou Broughton Koon. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School where he was a member of the FFA and served as his senior class president. He received two awards in FFA, the Star Greenhand Award and The American Farmers Degree. Bobby was of the Church of God faith and was a member of Alton Church of God where he served on the church council. He was the co-owner and operator of Koon Brothers Dairy Farm in Lafayette County for 52 years and also served as a correctional officer with the Department of Corrections at the Suwannee Correctional Institution. He also served on the Lafayette County School Board for 12 years. Bobby was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid Gator Football fan who in his spare time enjoyed hunting, fishing, and keeping up with the latest innovations in farming. He was preceded in death by; his parents, T.J. and Sallie Lou Koon; a brother, Charles Koon; and a granddaughter, Isabelle "Izzy" Sallie Lou Koon.

He is survived by; his wife of 39 years, Melody Darleen Koon; 2 daughters, Chelsey Boyette, of Old Town, FL, and Samantha McInnis, and husband Luke, of O'Brien, FL; a brother, Howell Koon, and wife Jackie, of Mayo; 2 sisters, Sandra Koon, of Tallahassee, FL, and Lynn Koon, of Mayo; a sister-in-law, Patricia Koon, of Mayo; 5 grandchildren, Michaela Johnson, and husband Curtis, Chloe Koon, Jack McInnis, Lily McInnis, and Drew McInnis; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Alton Church of God with Bro. Tim Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in Alton Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Taunton Family Children's Home at www.tauntonhome.net. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.
