Funeral services for Sammie Grace Baker, age 80, of Morton, Texas, will be held Friday, May 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton. Interment will follow at Morton Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021.

Sammie died Monday, May 3, 2021 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born August 10, 1940 in Portales, New Mexico to Hershell C. and Agnes Lee (Passmore) Shakespeare. She married Donnye Baker in Morton on February 14, 1958.

Sammie loved being with her family most of all. She enjoyed playing dominos at the Senior Citizens Center and traveling in her travel trailer with her husband and friends. Sammie was an excellent seamstress and was an avid gardener as well. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Jean Wright and Bootsye Barnes; and one brother, Jimmy Ray Shakespeare.

Sammie is survived by her two sons, Mark Baker and his wife, D'Ann of Whiteface, Texas and Wade Baker and his wife, Connie Jo of Morton, Texas; her two daughters, Tammie Rogers and her husband, David of Denver City, Texas and Mitzi Baker Van Winkle and her husband, Bob of Midland, Texas; her sister, Barbara Autry of Lubbock, Texas; her brother, H.L. Shakespeare of Levelland, Texas; her sixteen grandchildren, Taryn Parker, Ty Rogers, Trent Rogers, Sally Stewart and her husband, Eric, Reese Waltrip and his wife, Brie, Andrew Van Winkle and his wife, Shannon, Megan Schwingle and her husband, Ryan, Lyndi Van Winkle, Sean Parker, Natalie Baker, Nicholus Baker and his wife, Melinda, Nolan Baker and his wife, Lindsey, Garrett Baker, Peyton Baker, Brandon Eubanks and his wife, Angelica and Stephen Eubanks; and her thirteen great-grandchildren.
