Bootsye was born on October 29, 1935 in Bluit, New Mexico. She graduated from Morton High School. Bootsye married David Barnes on April 28, 1963. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Levelland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, H.C. and Agnes Shakespeare; sister, Jean Wright; and brother, Jimmy Ray Shakespeare.
Bootsye is survived by her husband, David Barnes of Levelland; son, Cory Barnes and wife Jodi of Shallowater; grandsons, Jeremy Barnes and wife Katy, Brody Barnes and Kelby Barnes, both of Lubbock; great grandchildren, Meredith Barnes and Kannon Barnes, children of Jeremy and Katy Barnes all of Lubbock; brother, H.L. Shakespeare and wife Mary of Levelland; sisters, Sammie Baker of Morton and Barbara Autry of Lubbock; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a bookkeeper for Keeling Buick, Olds and Pontiac for several years, and was awarded an Excellence in Accounting award by General Motors Corporation while employed there. Bootsye later worked in the banking industry for a few years and then worked for Delwin Jones, State Representative for Hockley County.
Bootsye enjoyed taking care of her house and working in her kitchen, especially making chocolate brownies. She enjoyed her grandchildren and having them visit in her home. They were all a delight and never did anything wrong.
She was a member of the Rose Garden Club and served as the secretary of the group. Bootsye was also a member of the Levelland Lioness Club for several years.
Bootsye will be missed by her family and friends, and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
