Victoria "Vicky" McKinney, a retired HCISD Educator, a life-long resident of Harlingen, was called home by our Lord and Savior on May 3, 2021 at the age of 87.

Victoria was born on September 14, 1933 to the late Arturo and Maria Uresti. She was born and raised in Mercedes, Texas. She was one of 8 siblings: 2 sisters and 5 brothers. Her siblings were †Senobio (Chene) Uresti (†Oralia), †Eva Trevino (†Antero), †Joe Uresti (†Angie), Ernesto Uresti (Jacqueline), Mary Lou Vermaas (John), Arturo Uresti (Rosa), †David Uresti (Nena). Vicky was proud of her town, her family, and her heritage. Her hard-working parents instilled the value of an education. She loved school and excelled in academics.

On May 25, 1958 she married the love of her life, Billy Joe McKinney Sr. on January 20, 1959, they welcomed their only son Billy Joe Jr. The following year on February 21, 1960 Darlene Gail was born. Their baby Brenda Gene was born on October 17, 1963. Vicky was a wonderful mother and devoted wife. Vicky loved to dance and travel. She often visited Mexico with Go With Jo and the Guadalupanas.

She was a devote Catholic who religiously prayed a nightly rosary and never let anyone leave her without her special blessings (manitas manitas). She enjoyed music, playing piano, singing while doing housework, and playing her harmonica. Education was a cornerstone of her life. She pursued a degree in Education from Pan American College and taught for numerous years. She loved teaching and was passionate about all her students. She continued her education at Texas A & I in Kingsville earning her Masters in Education from Pan American University in Edinburg. She was the 1st Hispanic Bilingual Educational Diagnostician in Harlingen and proudly served the entire district alongside 2 other diagnosticians. She was an active member of the community serving in a variety of capacities for Alpha Delta Kappa earning the designation of Silver Sister. She also enjoyed the companionship of her friends in the Pan American Round Table.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A special heartfelt gratitude to Raul and Ruby Navarette of The Providence Home and Greater Valley Hospice.

Services are under the direction and care of Rudy Garza Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A celebration of the Holy Rosary will take place at 7:00 p.m. A Holy Mass in her honor will be held Thursday, May 6, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church (1509 New Combes Highway in Harlingen, TX). Internment immediately following mass at Ashland Memorial Park Cemetery (21037 Godwin Road, Harlingen, TX)
