John Louis Dahlke, 86, of 1140 E. Whitman, died early Sunday in Bannock Memorial Hospital following an illness.
He was born June 19, 1888 at Antigo, Wis., the son of Carl Frederick and Christina Schroeder Dahlke. He received his schooling in Wisconsin and worked as a logger. When he was 21, he came to Marsh Valley where he farmed and attended Logan AC two years.
On Dec. 23, 1914 he married Caroline Sarah Noah at Ogden, Utah, and they homesteaded at Marsh Valley. Mr. Dahlke had been a 4-H leader, a member of the Marsh Valley School Board and was on the board of directors of Portneuf-Marsh Valley Canal Co., He was a member of the Lutheran Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all types of sports, especially wrestling.
He moved to Pocatello shortly before his wife died in 1970.
Survivors include three sons, Elwood of Downey, Bill of Inkom, and Delvin of Pocatello; three daughters, Mrs. James (Lorraine) Adkins, Mrs. George (Carolene) Keller and Mrs. Elwin (Nelda) Smith, all of Pocatello; 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, and three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Downey LDS Ward chapel with Bishop Thayne Thompson of the Virginia Ward officiating. Burial will ble in the Cambridge cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday at Manning Funeral Chapel. On Thursday from 11 a.m. until service time, friends may call at the Downey Ward Chapel.
