Grady Lois Allen, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Germaine (Lavoie) Allen for 69 years. Born February 22, 1921 in Tennessee; the son of the late James and Pairsettie Allen. Grady was one of 11 children. He married his wife Germaine in 1943. He worked construction most of his life working as a Lumberjack, Operating Engineer and Foreman for the Town of New Hartford as well as being self employed. He loved to restore antique cars and enjoyed woodworking. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Grady was also very active in the American Legion, V.F.W., and the 40 & 8. He is survived by 7 children, Edward & Carol Allen of Colebrook, Joyce & Bill Grouten of Burlington, Eugene & Pam Allen of Barkhamsted, Linda & Gary Stewart of Barkhamsted, Donald Allen of Colebrook, Rachel & Jim Golon of W. Suffield and Douglas Allen & fiancée Nancy Casey of Winchester; 21 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. He is also survived by 6 siblings who live in Tenn., and 1 in Illinois; many brother & sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and many friends. In addition to his wife who passed away in 2013, he was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Roberge in 2015; a son, Frank Allen in 1996; two great granddaughters; a brother and a sister. Friends may call on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford from 9 AM - 12 PM. Graveside services will be held at Immaculate Conception Cemetery with full Military Honors at 12:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The New Hartford Ambulance.
