William E. Todd Dead
Made His Summer Home In Fayetteville For Many Years
William E. Todd, well-known in Fayetteville where he has made his summer home for twenty years, died in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 17. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H.H. Smith of Brooklyn, and a sister, Mrs. Mary S. Todd of Rochester.
Born near Manlius in 1842, he journeyed to Philadelphia at the age of 16, where he entered the works of the Neafie & Levy ship and engine building company, becoming later superintendent of the company. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Civil War and was assistant Engineer aboard the U.S.S. Harvest Moon when that vessel was torpedoed and sunk in the harbor of Georgetown, South Carolina.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 2:30 at the Todd home, at the corner of Manlius and South Springs street.
