Paul Dean Ross, age 70, of Lehi, Utah passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2021 as a result of a massive stroke.

Paul was born on September 12, 1950 in Beaver, Utah, to Wendell D. and Gladys Green Ross in the family home where his grandmother, mother and two of his siblings were also born. He was the third of six children. As a young boy Paul lived in several different states. His dad's military service moved the family to Sacramento CA, San Antonio TX, Orlando FL, Biloxi, MS, Houston TX, Limestone ME, and El Paso, TX.

At age 10, the family returned home to Beaver, then moved to Ely, NV for 3 years, then back to Beaver. The family then moved to Richfield, UT, however, Paul stayed in Beaver with his grandparents to complete his senior year. He was a member of a band and played bass guitar. He developed many friendships that lasted throughout his life. Paul graduated from Beaver High School in 1968.

He served a two year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the North Carolina-Virginia Mission, where he was assistant to the Mission President (Rex D. Pinegar who later became a General Authority).

Upon returning from his mission, Paul worked hard to put himself through college, graduating from BYU with a degree in Business Management and Accounting.

Paul was almost a confirmed bachelor when he met the love of his life, Mary Hatch. After a whirlwind courtship lasting six weeks, they became engaged and married a month later in the Salt Lake Temple on Dec 6, 1979. Their marriage was sealed for time and eternity by his former Mission President, Rex D. Pinegar. Paul and Mary made their home in the Salt Lake Valley. Six years later in 1985 they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Jennifer Anna "Jenny" Ross. Jenny was her Daddy's little girl and always the light of his life.

Before retiring in 2011 Paul worked for Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation where he was the Controller for their Multi-million dollar budget. After retirement he kept on working to stay active. He did survey interviews for the U.S. Census Bureau. He showed property for Reese Property Management. His favorite job before retiring-from-retiring was to work for Gene England of England Trucking. This was all to help Jenny get through six years of college to achieve two degrees. Paul was a good provider for his family (both temporally and spiritually). He was also a great motivator for Jenny, encouraging her to work hard and purchase her own townhome which later became seed money for a new home in Arizona which they recently picked out

He loved the Lord and served faithfully in many church callings including Ward and Stake Employment Specialist and as Counselor in the Bishopric of the Lehi Thanksgiving Point Ward. He was a good neighbor and friend, who was loved by all who knew him.

Paul served 38 years in the National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve and retired as a Sargeant Major. The last years in the service, Paul assisted in providing legal services to soldiers deploying to operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield during the gulf War. Paul was also a Court Reporter for the Army. One time he was awarded two United States of America Meritorious Service metals for his service in two important cases.

He also loved his country roots. Paul helped his dad and brothers build a family cabin in the Fishlake National Forest at Seven Mile in 1985. Many cherished hours were spent together hunting, fishing, riding four-wheelers and playing games, such as Crazy Rook.

Other favorite hobbies included golfing, eating Mary's home cooking, watching mysteries, westerns and "enduring" Hallmark movies with a smile. Paul and Mary loved their daily walks in the Ashton Thanksgiving Point Gardens and visiting their daughter, Jenny, in Gilbert, Arizona.

We will miss his wit and wisdom, tender love and service. Paul was strong in every way and survived heart surgery, a broken hip, a broken nose and Covid-19.

Paul is survived by his wife, Mary Ross of Lehi, UT, daughter, Jennifer Anna "Jenny" Ross of Gilbert, AZ, brothers David (Susan) Ross of Holladay, UT, Roger Kent Ross (Alayne Waters Ross - deceased) of Sandy, UT, Russell G. (Terilyn) Ross of South Jordan, UT, sister Rinda (Joe) Viveros of Ontario, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Wendell D. and Gladys Green Ross of Richfield, UT, younger brother Robin Ross (stillborn), grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 9:30 to 10:45am prior to Funeral Services at 11:00am at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 1007 W South Jordan Pkwy, South Jordan, UT 84095.

Burial to follow in the Richfield City Cemetery, 780 N Main St, Richfield, UT 84701 with Graveside Services at approximately 2:45pm.
