His obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, February 17, 1905.

John Fawcett, the Union Twp. farmer, passed from earth Monday forenoon. He had been ill but a short time and it may be said he died of the infirmities of age. On Sabbath, February 5 he with his family attended church services at Pleasant Hill, being in his usual health. On Wednesday following, he was stricken with an attack of grippe and pneumonia, and on Monday at 11 o'clock, his spirit took flight to that bourne from which no traveler returns. The remains were interred at Carrollton, Wednesday, the funeral service being conducted by Rev. T. L. McRae.
Deceased was born September 24, 1822, and hence was in his 83rd year. He was born in Union Township and spent all his life there. As a boy he worked on the farm with the pioneers and was accustomed to their privations. His schooling was obtained at the subscription schools of the neighborhood. In October, 1845, he was married to Rosanna Crozier, a native of Cadiz, and they began life on forty acres on which was a cabin home. They had four children--Robert C., Charles G., Mrs. Margerie Brandt and Joseph M. In February, 1860, this home was broken by the death of the wife and mother, she being in her 37th year. In April, 1861, he was married to Miss Jane Paterson, a native of Harrison County and to them were born three sons and one daughter--the eldest, James A., being the only survivor. One brother also survives--Alexander W. of Kilgore, and four sisters; Mrs. Letitia Kneen of Iowa, Mrs. Rebecca Butler of California, Mrs. Dorinda Teter of West Virginia, and Mrs. Margery Moore of Delaware, this state--the last named being at his home in his last illness.
Mr. Fawcett was a good business man and he continually added to his store of this world's goods. Had he been engaged in the Iron or lumber business the same sagacity, foresight and energy would have made him a millionaire. He was a pleasant gentleman and had a wide circle of friends.
