Nicholas White was b 9 Sept 1783, North Haven, Me, the son of Major George White & Sarah Oliver. He probably died between 1828 - 12 July 1835 on North Haven (per North Haven church records). The North Haven Pulpit Harbor Baptist Church records, written 12 July 1835, merely state that Nicholas died -- was not "dismissed" to move to another town. Therefore it is currently believed that he died on North Haven before that time.

Nicholas married Betsy Eliza Pendleton 18 Nov 1809, Islesboro, Maine. Betsy was born 14 June 1790, Islesboro, the daughter of Oliver Pendleton Sr & Sally Young. She died about 1842, Palmyra, Me.

Nicholas and Betsy had 7 children:
1) Eliza White: 14 Oct 1810, North Haven - 23 Nov 1854, Augusta (Maine State Hospital). Married Wm H H Emerson, Sr
2) John White: 30 Nov 1811, North Haven - died in Louisiana
3) William White: 13 Aug 1812, North Haven - 1861, Palmyra. Married Mrs Lydia Cobb
4) Ambrose White: 24 April 1815, North Haven - 1863, Palmyra. Married Betsey Jane (Galusha) White
5) Mary Jane White: 1816, Islesboro - abt 1844, Palmyra. Never married.
6) Daughter White: between 1817 - 1820, Islesboro
7) George Warren White: 1821, North Haven - 3 April 1892, Hermon. Had a daughter with Betsey Jane Galusha. Married Damaris Ripley.

At the time of their marriage, Nicholas was of "Vinalhaven" and Betsy was of Islesboro.

21 Nov 1809: List of Letters Remaining in the Post Office at Castine, October 1st, 1809. The Eagle (Castine, Me), 21 Nov 1809, Vol 1, Issue 2, Page 1. Nicholas White.

In 1810, Nicholas White is residing on North Haven with just him and his wife listed. He is residing besides his parents, George & Sarah (Oliver) White.
In 1816, Nicholas White gave bond to Jonathan Pendleton for the support of Captain William Pendleton, Eliza's grandfather. Betsey Eliza was called "Eliza" in such bond.
In 1820, his name is recorded as Nicholas Whites. Nicholas and Eliza have removed to Islesboro where he has three males under 10 (John, William, and Ambrose), himself between 26 & 45; two females under 10 (Mary Jane and ?), Eliza between 16 & 26, one person involved in agriculture.

Nicholas cannot be found for certain in any subsequent census. Nothing is recorded in Vinalhaven or Islesboro's Vital Records which could shed light on what happened to the family. With son George Warren's birth on North Haven, it appears they returned to North Haven for a time. It is probable that Nicholas & family remained on North Haven until the late 1820's - early 1830's. Cousin Barbara (Beverage) Gale had removed to Palmyra in the mid 1820's as did other islanders. Did Eliza remove her family to Palmyra after Nicholas' death?

It is known (per Descendants of Brian Pendleton) that Nicholas' widow, Eliza, married James Nichols as his 4th wife in Palmyra (marriage date unknown). Death date is also unknown, but reported to be about 1842, Palmyra.
