Lois was born October 4, 1923, in rural Rio, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn M. and Ruby Mariell (Bowen) Young. She married Walter E. Johnson on February 16, 1947, in Galesburg. After 59 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on October 27, 2006.
Lois is survived by her five daughters, Mary (Bill) Rustemeyer of Normal, Illinois, Karen (Mike) Tuthill of Knoxville, Illinois, Sue Simpson of Rio, Joyce (Danny) Stevens of Gilson, Illinois, and Carol (Jurgen) Kukuk of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, Veryle Bruner, Garnet Hoing, Vada Carlson, and Marilyn Ross, two brothers, Robert and Bernard Young, and a son-in-law, Greg Simpson.
Lois graduated from Oneida High School in 1941. She married her husband and took on the role of a farmer's wife. Lois and Walter soon started a family, and she became a busy mother to her five daughters and later a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She was an exceptional baker, known for her homemade cinnamon rolls. Lois was active with her bowling league and enjoyed her neighborhood Bunco Club.
Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
