Co. A 1 PA. Cav. "The First Cavalry, designated as the Forty-fourth Regiment of the Pennsylvania line, and the Fifteenth of the Reserves, was made up of companies raised in Washington, (I, K-part Washington & part Allegheny recruits), Juniata, Montgomery, Mifflin, Cameron, Clinton, Centre, Clearfield, Greene, Blair, Fayette, Berks, Lebanon, and Lancaster Counties, in the summer and fall of 1861. These two companies, along with Company H, rendezvoused at Camp Wilkins, Pittsburgh, and were mustered into the service (MI) in August and September, 1861."

Mustered out: with Company "A", by General Order, June 6, 1865.
Rudolph Jr. was the son of Rudolph Essick Sr. and Leah Palmer-Humble. She was widow when they married. He married Elizabeth Florilla Maloy on July 27, 1872 in Washington Co., PA. They were early pioneers to the Orleans area.
