FUNERAL HELD FOR FORMER GLINES BISHOP.
Jos. A. McKee, Prominent Ashley Valley Leader Buried Here Tuesday. Largely attended were the funeral services Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Glines Ward chapel for Joseph A. McKee, 83, prominent pioneer rancher and stockman of the Ashley Valley since 1884, when he settled at Jensen and later moved to Glines Ward serving as bishop for 14 years. Death occurred February 5, at 8:18 p.m. at his home 2137 South West Temple Street, Salt Lake, of causes incident to age. Since moving there November 10, 1931 he had been active in church and temple affairs until time of his death. Funeral services were held at the Burton LDS Ward chapel at 10:30 a.m. Monday and the body was brought here for burial and funeral rites under the direction of Bishop John B. Eaton. Music was furnished by a mixed chorus consisting of Mrs. Myron Perry, Mrs. Don Batty, Mrs. Martin Curtis, Mrs. Lowell Wardle, Cecil Billings and John Hodgkinson, who sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "How Gentle God's Command" as the opening and closing numbers. "In The Garden" was a duet by Mrs. Curtis and Mrs. Wardle. Mrs. Batty sang, "Face to Face." Archie Johnson was accompanist for all numbers. The opening prayer was by Ray McKee, Tridell, County Commissioner and nephew of the deceased. The benediction was pronounced by Don A. Batty. Speakers were William H. Siddoway, George W. Perry, Archie Johnson and Bishop Eaton. All spoke of their association with the deceased in church and civic affairs. Many beautiful floweres adorned the casket and rostrum. Pallbearers, active and honorary were members of the High Priests Quorum: active were: Ivan Batty, Myron Perry, William Hoefeltz, Eugene Woodruff, Martin Fletcher and J. Ray McKee. Joseph Allen McKee was born April 3, 1859, at Spanish Fork, Utah, the son of William and Sarah Ann Hodgson McKee. The family came to Ashley Valley in the spring of 1884 and settled in Jensen. He was married to Laura Orser, December 28, 1887, at Jensen and two years later moved to Glines Ward. To them were born six children. Two boys, Eugene and Clair, preceded him in death. Surviving are Mrs. Lila Workman, Mrs. Alice Thomas, both of Oakland, California and Mrs. Ella Batty, Wallsburg; one son, William P. McKee of South Jordan. His wife died October 1, 1902 at Vernal. He was chosen as president of the YWMIA and later as couselor to Bishop John A. Workman of Glines Ward. He was then chosen bishop of the ward, which office he held for 14 years. He acted as a high councilman in Uintah Stake for 5 years and as county commisioner for 14 years. He was also president of the Ashley Upper Canal Company at different times for a period of 30 years. The McKee family home will be remembered as the one now occupied by Raymond Searle. He was married to Priscilla Henry in 1907. To them were born three daughters, Rena, Josephine and Vella. Rena and Vella preceded him in death. Mrs. Josephine Hansley resides in Seattle, Washington. On April 19, 1927, he was married to Susannah Palmer. They moved to Salt Lake City, November 10, 1931, where they have since made their home. Until the time of his death. Bishop McKee was active as a ward teacher and temple worker, Besides his widow, he is survived by 5 children, 22 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Those here from outside points for the services included: His widow, Mr. and Mrs. William F. McKee, son Jack and daughter Mary Alice; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Workman and Weston Workman, all of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Lila Workman and Mrs Alice Thomas of Oakland, California; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Batty of Wallsburg, Utah; Mrs. Mary Orser and son, Lynn, of Roosevelt and Mr. and Mrs. Ray McKee and family of Tridell. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park.
