Rapper. He was best known for such hits as "X Gon' Give It to Ya" and "Party Up (Up in Here)." He had a troubled childhood and got involved in drugs in his early teenage years. After serving a stint in prison, he started writing rap lyrics and working with such greats as Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz. Known for his distinctive snarling vocals and aggressive style, he found massive success as a rapper despite a turbulent, troubled lifestyle. His first five albums, beginning with 1998's "It's Dark and Hell Is Hot," all debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, a milestone he remains the only rapper ever to have achieved. His third studio album, 1999's " ... And Then There Was X," would be his best-selling work, achieving five times platinum status, and it was nominated for two Grammys, including best rap album. His 2008 single "X Gon' Give It to Ya" was one of his most popular. He was also known for his acting performances in such films as "Belly," (1998) "Romeo Must Die," (2000) and "Exit Wounds" (2001).
