BLUFFS — Joseph W. Chaney, 77, of Naples passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021.
He was born Feb. 28, 1944, in Marquette City, Michigan, the son of Benjamin R. and Lucy J. Goodman. He married Pansy L. Holder Henderson on Dec. 1, 2007.
Surviving are his wife, Pansy of Naples; children, Wayne Chaney of Naples, Brenda (Allan) Cooper of Mount Sterling, Debra (John) Lemons of Macomb, Larry Henderson of Jacksonville, Peggy (Michael) Newingham of Roodhouse, Steven (Phyllis) Henderson of Naples and Lori (John) DeOrnellas of Chapin; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; siblings, Pearl Miller of Michigan and Clarence (Pat) Chaney of Colorado. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Amelia Esme Davis; siblings, Junior Chaney, Frank Chaney, Emmett "Gene" Chaney, William "Bill" Chaney, Ethel Wittman and Richard Chaney; a brother-in-law, Gilbert Holder; and a mother-in-law, Violet Holder.
Joe had a love and great talent for woodworking, building crafts, making quilts, whittling with a knife/making them and watching old classic westerns and cartoons. He enjoyed hunting, which fed his family for many years. He had a great love for visiting Michigan to visit family, especially his sister and her husband, Fred Miller. Joe enjoyed camping, fishing, sightseeing and looking out at the Great Lakes in Michigan. However, Joe's greatest loves were his wife, Pansy; the 40 years they spent together; and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For many years, he lived by the Illinois River and loved every moment of it. Joe owned a bait and tackle shop in Shady Acres in Meredosia for a few years. He was employed by the state hospital in Jacksonville and later worked for Rich Lumber Co. in Beardstown until retirement.
A funeral service will be at noon Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Daws Family Funeral Home in Bluffs with interment at Belltown Cemetery near White Hall. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Belltown Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at dawsfuneralhome.com.
