Among the first opal miners to arrive in Andamooka in 1931 were brothers Andrew and Franko Albertoni travelling from Blinman. Working together in the German Gully area of Andamooka as opal gouges, they lived in very rough conditions and built one of the first semi-dug out cottages beside Opal Creek. This building still stands on it's original site in 2021 and is part of historical cottages display in Andamooka. After Andrew's death in c1941 Frank continued to mine and live in Andamooka until his death in 1971.
