Darlene Abney-Veazey passed quietly on January 14, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, "Red", to whom she was married for 57 years, and her grandson, Steven Bailey.

Born December 1, 1938 in Camp Hill, Alabama, she is survived by two sons (Sam and Dan) and one daughter (Sandy). Other remaining family members include two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers, various nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her late husband's daughters (Mary and Cher), grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Darlene graduated as Valedictorian from Milltown High School in 1956. Shortly afterward she moved to Michigan, then to Arizona where she ultimately met the love of her life, Red. She was devoted to her husband and children and balanced family life with a successful career in a variety of management roles. Her career included many years in office management within the Aerospace industry, commercial contracting and legal administrative work.

Darlene is fondly remembered by her family and friends, for her fun and engaging spirit. She especially enjoyed helping others whenever she could and in her spare time, she loved to garden. She was an adept seamstress, designing and constructing her daughter's wedding dress, baby clothes and at one point had a small business sewing and selling "scrubs".

Above all, she like to laugh and make others laugh —she loved a good practical joke and was often involved in family pranks particularly with her husband, sisters and brothers. She loved to spend time with her family, telling jokes, singing and listening to music. She had a special affinity for Elvis, the "King" and with the fun-loving spirit she was known for, she did not hesitate to sneak off with her sister to see the "King" when they were teenagers.

We all have many special and loving memories of her - how she lived her life, loved and laughed. We'll miss her smile and the twinkle in her eyes. Rest easy, dear lady — We'll remember you always.
