Medical Pioneer. Prominent Physician and Obstetrician who, at one time, was the oldest practicing African-American doctor in Ohio. Began practicing medicine in 1898, and became the first African-American in the United States to head a hospital department. During his 60 year career delivered over 5,000 babies. In 1939 was one of the founders of Cleveland's first interracial hospital, Forest City Hospital.
