Gary Dwayne Simmons, age 57, passed away with his family by his side on February 2, 2020, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio from complications from a brief illness.


Gary was born on January 9, 1963, in Richlands, Virginia. Although he was born in Virginia he lived most of his life in Ohio.


Gary met and married the love of his life, six years ago.


He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Milton Simmons, Sr., on October 1, 1977, and his mother, Pearl Alberta Smith Simmons on April 14, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his older brother, Tommy Simmons, on August 29, 1969, and his brother-in-law Berkley (Ike) Tuggle on September 24, 2001.


Gary graduated from Cardington Lincoln High School/Tri-Rivers Joint Vocational School in 1982. He was the President of his Senior Class.


He went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Marion Technical College.


Gary loved his country and served in the US Armed Forces, Army Division, from November of 1985 to November of 1987.


He was proud of his military career and was a strong supporter of our country and of his fellow Veterans.


He worked in various occupations during his lifetime but working as a Mechanic was his passion.


He loved working on cars and could do almost anything that needed to be done to them.


He was a lifelong dog lover and most recently, next to his wife his dog, Lucky, was his closest companion.


Gary was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers.


He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family.


Gary is survived by his wife, and his step-children, his daughter, of Iberia, Ohio, his sisters, and his brother, of Marion, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.


Gary's Memorial Service will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Chillicothe, Ohio on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 11 am.


Memorial contributions can be made to the Ross County Veterans Service Commission, 475 Western Avenue, Suite C, Chillicothe, Ohio.


Services are provided by the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio.
