Believed to have been born in North Carolina around 1840. In the 1860 Tippah County, Mississippi census, he was living with the family of David P. Childers and was married to Matilda Claretta Childers, having married on 19 Jan 1860. He joined Company G, 34th Mississippi in the spring of 1862. Confederate records show that he was in the hospital at Bardstown in October 1862, having been directed there by the Regimental Surgeon. There are no records following his hospitalization, leaving the likelihood that he succumbed to illness and is likely buried among the unknowns in Bardstown.
