Joyce Benton White
Wenona - Joyce Benton White, 67, of Wenona, passed away Monday, March 15, 2021 at John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Born on December 27, 1953 she is the daughter of Julia Benton Dolbey and the late William (Spooky) Benton.
Joyce enjoyed a successful career working for the Maryland Department of Corrections for 23 years. She started her career at the Poplar Hill Pre-Release Unit and later at E.C.I. where she retired as a sergeant. Prior to working for ECI, she worked in the family business of White's Seafood helping run Shirley's Shack in Wenona. Joyce was always willing to help anyone and was one of the most loving, caring people you could meet. She was always a voice of reason offering smiles of reassurance. Joyce was The Wind Beneath Our Wings, our Shining Star and our Hero. Earlier in life, she was an avid softball player and bowler. She was active in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, helped with the festival at the Labor Day Boat Races in Deal Island and other events. Joyce was a devoted mother and grandmother, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, visiting her grandchildren, watching her hummingbirds and caring for her pets.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 38 years, Jeff White; daughter Julie Keaser (Chris); son Jeffery Lane White Jr.; step son Tony White (Beverly); sister Rose Taylor (Roger); brother Willie Benton (Susan); sister in law, Sunny Anne White (Steve Reid); grandchildren William, Tyler, Michael, Jace, Jasmine and Cassidy and several nieces and nephews. She had a special friend, Helen Jones, and Aunt, Kay Daniels.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Benton.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm at Hinman Funeral Home in Princess Anne. There will be a viewing from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. The Reverend David Webster will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Pauls United Methodist Church cemetery in Wenona.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Pauls United Methodist Church at 9100 Deal Island Road, Wenona, MD 21821.
