Ken Halbert of Steelville; Direct descendant of James Ira Sr. directed me to the Schweider cemetery. The cemetery is located on the Original James Ira Halbert Sr. Homestead(Ken referred to it as the Original Halbert plantation). The only visual markings, J-I-H on his tombstone with No dates. James was a well known Baptist Minister in Crawford County MO. He started the Primitive "Bethel Baptist Church" of Steelville. The church and building no longer exist.
He is buried next to his wife Francis "Fannie" (Pepper) Halbert. She is to his right. Her stone is much more deteriorated. I might have been able to make out an "H" on her stone. Ken Halbert suspected one of the family's slaves chiseled out the initials. The cemetery is off Woolsey RD. in Cherry Valley. we had to drive through a private farm/pasture/cattle gate to find the small cemetery. There are Many old graves. I remember seeing numerous Halberts and a few Martin and of course Schweider stones.
I'm the 6th. generation grandson of James Ira SR. and Francis Pepper. I'm looking forward in meeting James and Francis in Heaven one day!
