He married Elizabeth "Bettie" Bowen on January 11, 1838. They lived in Laurens County, South Carolina and then moved to Alabama. His brother Joshua Lucius Halbert was in Fayette County, Alabama. He either died in Alabama or joined his brother in Crawford County, Missouri. His oldest son, Thomas M. Halbert, died in Missouri and is buried in his uncle's, James Ira Halbert, cemetery. Another son, John Wesley Halbert also is buried in Crawford County, Missouri. A daughter married in Crawford County, Missouri in 1850. All this leads me to believe that he moved his family to Crawford County to be with his brother.

William died about 1859.
