Johann Georg "George" Doerbecker was born in Breitenbach, Hessen, Germany. His parents were Johann Detrik Doerbecker (~1754 - ~1809) and Anna Margatha Raeuber (b. ~1752).

George Doerbecker was first married to Anna Martha Vetter (b. ~1790). Known children from this marriage were:

  • Andreas "Andrew" (1819-1902)
  • Johann Valentine "Valentine (1821-1908)
  • Anna Maria "Mary" (1831-1915)

After the death of his first wife (sometime between 1831 and 1840), George married Katharina "Catherine" Schneider (1813-1905). Their known children were:

  • Elizabeth (1841-1933)
  • Juliana (1849-1935)

Of George's known children, Juliana was the only one to be born in Canada, indicating that the Doerbecker family emigrated from Germany sometime in the 1840s. They settled in Woolwich Township on a farm just north of Erbsville, Ontario (Lot 62, German Company Tract).

George's death was announced in the Berliner Journal Newspaper on April 17, 1862:
