DEATH CAME QUICKLY

Friends Had Barely Time to Carry the Sick Man Home

Nazine Yelle, aged about seventy years, died suddenly almost on the street yesterday afternoon.

About 4 o'clock, F. P. Kelly and John Pugh noticed Mr. Yelle leaning against a telephone pole at the street corner. He was breathing heavily and seemed very ill. Mr. Kelly asked him, and the old gentlemen murmured something about living at the Falls View house. He was aided to the latter place which was but a block away and sat down on the stoop. He was growing rapidly worse. His breathing was becoming more laborious and it was thought best to take him inside. As soon as he was placed on the bed he gave two or three short gasps and died.

At the Falls View little was known of Mr. Yelle. He came to that place about the middle of February. His room rent was paid promptly and but little attention was paid to him until a few days ago when it was noticed that he was very feeble. Assistance was offered him. He said at that time he had been unwell for about nine months but thought he would be all right in a short time. At the hotel it was though he was a temperate man only drinking a glass of beer occasionally. One of the men who picked him up yesterday said he smelled traces of drink on the old man's breath very distinctly however.

Doctor Freeman was sent for but death came before the doctor could arrive.

Mr. Wilson, a second hand dealter, had known him for some time. he says Mr. Yelle was the father of Edith Yelle of Colfax, and Jospeh Yelle, now resides in the Coeur d'Alenes. Decased's wife also resides in Colfax.

Mr. Yelle is an old timer in the west. Since his residence in Spokane he has tended bar at various saloons in Spokane, the last being at the Theatrical Exchange. Of late, however, he has been unable to do any work, depending on his pension of $12.00 per month.

The body has been removed to the Washington Undertaking parlors and the funeral will probably be under the auspices of the G. A. R., of which organization deceased was a member. The relatives residing in Colfax have been notified and will probably arrive on today a train.

Enlisted as a Corporal on 13 August 1862 at the age of 27.
Enlisted in Company G, 6th Infantry Regiment Minnesota on 13 Aug 1862.
Received a disability discharge from Company G, 6th Infantry Regiment Minnesota on 16 Jan 1863
