Nevada Public Library obituary file, Nevada, Iowa, NEVADA JOURNAL November 18, 1921. "COLLINS PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH. - John B. Kimberley died in Des Moines Hospital Recently. Special to the Journal. Collins, Nov. 18 - J. B. Kimberley, well known pioneer and prominent citizen of Clear Creek Township, over the line in Jasper county, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on November 10, and the body was laid to rest in the old Peoria cemetery, after services at the home on Sunday, the sermon being preached by Rev. B. A. Gann of Maxwell. Mr. Kimberley had gone down to the hospital but a few weeks before to take treatments and the news of his death came as a great surprise to members of the family, neighbors and friends. While he had not been well for a year it was not supposed that his condition was so serious. John B. Kimberley, the eldest son of Isaiah and Mary Ann Kimberley, was born August 3, 1854, in Herkimer county, New York, and died November 10, 1921, at the Methodist hospital, Des Moines, Ia., aged sixty-seven years, three months and seven days. He came to Allamakee county, Ia., with his parents in the latter part of 1854. The family removed to Jasper county, Iowa in 1866 where he lived with his parents on the old Kimberley homestead until the year 1880. On March 21, 1891, he was united in marriage to Minnie M. Shearer, who survives him. To this union there were born ten children, of whom the following are living, Frank W., Isaiah M., John B. Jr., Fred H., Ruth E., Mildred J., Minnie H., Harold S., and Kathryn M. The five latter named children reside at the parental home. He is also survived by two brothers, Frank J., and Charles H. of Collins, three sisters, Mrs. Harriet Swalwell of Collins, Mrs. Ada Angelo and Mrs. Ruth Pearson of Maxwell, four grandchildren and many other relatives. He was superintendent of the Harsh school for many years, and was very active in this work, and was always interested in the community in which he lived and any move for its betterment. He had a wide circle of friends who respected him for his kind, unassuming manner, integrity and sincere, straightforward way. He was a devoted, affectionate husband, a loving father and a true neighbor. His was an industrious, busy life, well spent, and it seems that the end should come peacefully, bring to him calm repose."
