He was born on October 3, 1929 in Clearfield, the son of Harry P. and Catherine (Hahn) Hinks.
Mr. Hinks had been employed as a lineman with Mohawk Power in Niagara Falls, NY.
He had attended St. John Lutheran Church and was a member of the Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1785, Clearfield American Legion -John Lewis Shade Post #6, Clearfield Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #812, Curwensville L.O.O.M., and the Curwensville Smokehouse.
Mr. Hinks was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Era.
He is survived by three children: Jacqueline M. Hinks of Punxsytawney, John E. Hinks, Jr. of Hyde, Frederick L. Hinks of Ashland, VA; three grandchildren, Trisha Hinks-Smay, Jamie Hinks, Lacey Hinks; a great-grandson; a sister and brother, Mary Sarvey of Clearfield, Harry Hinks of Mt. Joy, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hinks is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Charlie Hinks.
Funeral services will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
