Dorothy Ruth Bowden, 96, Pittsville, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Three Oaks Health Services.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 15, 2021 at Veedum Moravian Church, Pittsville, where visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time. Her son, Gary, will officiate. Masks and social distancing are encouraged. Burial will follow at Dexterville Cemetery. Buchanan/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Dorothy was born on January 10, 1925 in the Town of Dexter to Julius and Edna (McNeal) Smith. She attended Pittsville High School and graduated in 1942 as class valedictorian. Right after graduation she worked at West Allis Stamping and worked there in order to earn enough money to attend nursing school at UW-Madison. She attended for one year before being united in marriage to Clifford Bowden on May 27, 1944. During her life on the farm, she also worked as a seasonal employee at Ocean Spray cranberry marsh and was a teacher’s aid at Pittsville High School until her retirement.

Dorothy belonged to the Veedum Moravian Church Women’s Fellowship, taught Sunday school, and was the organist for many years. She was also a Cub Scout leader and served as a 4-H project leader and was on the Town of Dexter election board for a number of years. Dorothy enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing, needlework, and crocheting.

She is survived by her children, Victor (Kathy) Bowden, Lucille (Ken) Anderson, Susan Bowden, Roger (Patricia) Bowden, Gary (Grace) Bowden, Earl (Mari) Bowden, Ronnie (Shannon) Bowden, Raymond (Stacey) Bowden, and Edward Bowden. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, daughter, Louise Zobel, and 3 brothers, Albert, Leroy, and Preston Smith.

The family wishes to thank the Delaney Home in Pittsville for excellent care that mom received and also to Three Oaks Health Services and Heartland Hospice who provided care in her final days.
