Raymond Peter "Ray" Peterson
1942 - 2021

Early Life: Raymond "Ray" was born April 16, 1942, in Burns, Oregon, the son of Robert and Marie Peterson. He raised in Wisdom, Montana, where he grew up on the home ranch. Ray was born with cowboy boots and hat upon his head. He was a rancher through and through. He attended a small school called West Fox; this school was actually moved closer to the home ranch so Ray and his brother, Bobby, didn't have to ride their horses so far to get to school. Although to hear him tell it, he rode 10 miles in the snow uphill both ways. It has also been told that Ray and his brother may have locked the teacher out of the school on occasion as well. He later attended and graduated from Dillon High School.
Life’s Work | Service | Interests: Following high school, Ray ranched in Twin Bridges, the Stephens and the Alby ranches. Nothing made him happier than being out on his horse with his cows and a dog by his side. In 1982, Ray met a beautiful blond whom he would love until his last breath. Ray and Karen were married on February 13, 1982. They moved to Hamilton, Montana, where Ray started a new career building roads and digging ditches. He also used his equipment to help during fire season. In his spare time, he and Karen were avid trap shooters and liked to play a round or two of golf. Ray was well-known for his storytelling. If you came over to the house you were bound to be entertained with one of his many tales. You might have to sift through the faction for the fact, but you were sure to be entertained. Raymond Pete "Ray" Peterson, of Hamilton, passed away March 9, 2021. He was 78.
Survived By: His wife, Karen; sister, Shari (Wayne); son, Guy (Raeni); daughter, Ronda (Mike); son, Wayne (Joni). Ray was blessed with six amazing grandchildren: Calvin (Colette), Jake (Dani), Dani (Tim), Travis (Aunica), Alex (Laura) and Jordan; six great-grandchildren: Abby, Josie, Payton, Hazel, Thayne and Wren; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
