Cassie McDonald was born in Glengarry County, Canada West (Ontario). In 1883, she married Alexander "Sandy" McKinnon. The couple never had any of their own children but raised Angus Donald McKinnon, one of the sons of Sandy's brother, Alex, who died in 1884. After many years living in Crookston, Minnesota, Sandy and Cassie returned to Canada. Sandy died in 1922 and Cassie in 1930. They are both buried in the plot of Angus McKinnon in the cemetery of St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Glen Nevis, Ontario.
