Sandra (Sandy) Kay Marshall our Nanny passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5th 2021 surrounded by her family. Sandy was born in Victoria, TX on November 17, 1950 to Alvin Lee Nelson and Sadie Mae Westerman Nelson.

Sandy attended Victoria High School where she played basketball as a varsity freshman for the Victoria Stingarettes. Her love for sports continued when her husband and children were stationed with the Air Force in the Azores, where she joined a bowling league, played basketball, golf and volleyball. Her dedication to sports is a family characteristic that has been handed down to her 8 grandchildren. Sandy made sure to attend as many of their games as possible and was certainly their #1 fan.

Sandy’s life was dedicated to making others happy with her acts of service. At any given time, she was working on a sewing project or two; whether it was her grandkids’ award-winning Halloween costumes, bedroom makeovers, unique birthday party favors or special outfits. When she wasn’t sewing she was in the kitchen cooking up her family’s long list of favorites. Her walk to school cookies and chocolate cake were requested at every get-together. But most requested was Nanny’s Famous Homemade Ice Cream. Our Nanny was all about making Christmas special for her family. She carried on her mother’s tradition of doting on her grandkids and going all out to decorate and celebrate.

Nanny gifted everyone she met with her friendship and acceptance. She modeled unconditional love and truly made our world better with her big heart, easy smile and genuine affection. Anyone who spent a moment with her fell in love with her caring soul and felt as if they had a new best friend. Nanny was the life of the party. She was quick to join in any game, participate in any activity and generally be up for any new experience life had to offer. You would never be surprised to catch her having fun; whether it be riding a giant tricycle with her grandkids, trying out a new dance move, hopping over to the casino with her sisters, getting her weekly scratch offs, or joining in a game of 42 or poker. She knew how to celebrate life to the fullest and have a good time.

We will always carry her love and the amazing memories in our hearts.

Services for Sandra Kay Marshall will be held at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Victoria, TX on Thursday, March 11th. Visitation will begin at 12:30pm and the service at 2pm. Burial following service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Victoria, TX.
