KERRVILLE - Retired Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. Reuben H. Hartman, longtime Kerrville resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary B.; one son, Robert Evan and wife, Jennifer of Kerrville; and daughter, Mary Anne of Austin; his sister, Mrs. Ed (Mae Louise) Baskin of Kerrville; brother-in-law, retired Air Force Reserve Lt. Col. J.L. Lockley and wife, Annabelle of San Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hartman graduated from Tivy High School and Schreiner Institute (now Schreiner University), where he and his wife were students. He was a member of the Kerrville Unit of the Texas National Guard when it was activated during World War II. He graduated from the Air Force Officer Candidate School and the Army Command and General Staff School at Leavenworth, Kan.
After the war, he graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and returned to Kerrville to join longtime friend, Hilmar Pressler, in forming the accounting firm of Pressler and Hartman, later joined by W.F. "Tommy" Thompson to form Pressler, Hartman and Thompson.
He later joined Fred and Enid Collins in the ladies handbag company, Collins of Texas, in Medina, Texas. He retired as president of this company, and returned to accounting in Kerrville for the remainder of his business life, retiring in 2007.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and sang in its choir for many years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees) and Tri State president of the National Chinchilla Association of America.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
