Betty Jo Vickers was born July 8, 1933 in Sedgwick, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Tom and Nellie Melton and lived most of her early years in Coalinga, California. She had 4 sisters; Vida, Vera, Dolores and Barbara, and one brother, Tommy.
Betty attended Coalinga High School and was a member of the class of 1952. Betty married and raised two daughters, Patti and Penny and one son, Jim. While raising her family, Betty worked in a variety of jobs but her main vocation was raising her children.
In 1981 while living in Bakersfield, Betty became reacquainted with Richard Vickers, whom she knew as a friend from Coalinga High School. They married July 24, 1982 and Richard was her loving husband until her death.
One of the jobs she most enjoyed was working with her husband, Richard, as managers of the Highland Knolls Mobile Estates. Outside of work, Betty enjoyed shopping, playing bingo and making trips to Laughlin.
Betty is survived by a large and loving family; her sister and spouse, Barbara and Jack Miller; 5 daughters and spouses, Sandra and Mike Popejoy, Patricia and Fred Board, Cheryl Vickers, Penny Wallace, Jenny Ragsdale; one son; James Wallace; 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
