Diane Wentworth Boyne Howell, 83, of Niskayuna, NY, came to eternal rest on December 25th at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Albany, NY, on July 10, 1934, she was the daughter of Harold and Anne Boyne and sister to Marcia Boyne.

She attended Saint Agnes School in Albany then Russell Sage College in Troy where she graduated in 1955 with a bachelor degree in education.

Upon graduation from Sage she began a short career as a teacher for the Albany Public School system before starting her family.

In the same year she graduated from college, she married David Wright Howell with whom she recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Niskayuna to raise their family and they have been at their current home on Almeria Road for 55 years. Their home is well known in the community for its holiday decorations, inside and out, and was featured in the Daily Gazette Fall Home section. Some who know the home but not the family may call her Peg, given the “Tidy Peg” quarter board above her garage door. That was her way of compiling her children’s names into a phrase.

She and her family are members of the First Presbyterian Church in Schenectady where their four children and a number of their grandchildren have been married.

Diane was devoted to her family and bravely fought to witness her last Christmas with them. She graciously hosted large celebrations at her home with family and friends, new and old, and found her greatest joy in the presence of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her days spent with her family and her dear furry companion Harold, by the pool or on the beach, singing songs, playing cards, hosting tea parties, knitting and baking colossal sugar cookies.

Diane had a kind and loving spirit which was a gift to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She is survived by her husband David and their four children, ten grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren: Cynthia Anne Howell Battiste and her husband David Battiste, their sons Matthew with wife Lindsey (and children Louis and Fiona), Michael and Scott. Pamela Jean Howell Tentor and her husband R. Martin Tentor, their daughters Katrina Tentor Lallier with husband Matthew (and children Madeline, Elizabeth, and Emma), and Kimberly Tentor Peck with husband Ian (and children Cameron and Cayden). Timothy Scott Howell and his wife Andrea Browne Howell, their daughters Rebecca Howell with husband William Butcher, Victoria and Alexandra. Megan Elizabeth Howell Swenson and her husband Scott Swenson, their daughter Emily and their son Sean.

A private burial service will be performed at Albany Rural Cemetery.
