Ray was born on June 11, 1951, in Randolph County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia McNeill Sanders Jarrell and James Edgar Sanders; sisters, Linda Kay Sanders, Patricia Oxendine; and brother, Harold Updike.
Ray is survived by his sister, Wanda Stanley and husband Wilbur of High Point; brothers, Jerry McNeill and wife Marynell of Aiken, SC, Bobby Sanders and wife Frankie of Lenoir, Richard Jarrell and wife Lori of Winston-Salem; brother-in-law, Willie Oxendine of Thomasville; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and best friends, Kevin Lockhart, and Linda Carter.
Ray will lie in state from 12:00 until 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Ridge Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 7, 2021, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Danny McMahan officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
