M. M. Belt, Age 90 Was Buried Sunday

Had been a Merchant at Lamb for 50 Years; Died at Home of Daughter

In less than a week after he had been moved from his home at Lamb near Cave-in-Rock, Marion Monroe Belt, aged 90, died Friday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, the Rev. and Mrs. W. M. Lane, in Sumner. His health had not been good for many months and he had been confined to his bed most of the time during the summer. He was taken in an ambulance to Sumner when Mrs. Lane moved with her household goods to join Rev. Lane, the Saturday before her father's death.

Mr. Belt was one of the aged citizens of Hardin county, his 90th birthday anniversary having occurred on August 6th, 1943. He was born in Josey county, Ind., but his parents, Houston and Nancy Belt, moved to Cave-in-Rock, after a short stay in Kentucky, when his age was about one year. With the exception of a few years in Kentucky and a few years in Missouri, after his marriage, Mr. Belt had lived his entire life in the vicinity of Cave-in-Rock. For almost 50 years he had lived at Lamb, having conducted a mercantile business there until recently.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W. M. Lane, Sumner, Ill., one son, Charlie Belt near Saline Mines, Gallatin county and one brother, T. J. Belt, who also lived at Lamb until this week when he moved to Harrisburg.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Smyrna cemetery where interment was made. Services were in charge of Rev. J. R. Keeling.
