ROBERTS, Johnnie “Doyle”, age 87, of Dayton, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2021 at his residence.

Doyle worked nearly 30 years at Dayton Press and another 12 years for Centerville City Schools before officially retiring in the mid ’90’s. He was affiliated with Dryden Road Pentecostal Church.

Outgoing, decisive, ornery, kind, and loving, Doyle had a gentle soul, a big heart, and would do anything to help others. Being mechanically inclined, he could fix anything and would often ponder over things until he figured out how to fix them, rather than hire it to be fixed. He greatly enjoyed gardening, building and repairing cars, boating, and especially fishing. He took his family to Bruce Mines in Ontario, Canada each year for over 20 years for family vacations and to enjoy quality fishing. He also enjoyed food and liked to experiment in the kitchen, ultimately becoming a good cook along the way. Among many things, he will be remembered for his love of pocket knives, which he collected and made.

He was preceded in death by his son Terry Roberts; his parents George and Bethel Roberts; and three brothers George Jr., Delbert, and Dallas Roberts. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; daughter Kim Schrader; daughter-in-law Colleen Roberts; three grandsons Dustin Ketring, Terry “T.J.” Roberts, and Jordan Schrader; two great grandsons Noah and Owen Ketring; and one brother James (Connie) Roberts.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, March 4 at Dryden Road Pentecostal Church in Moraine. Rev. Benny Sutherland will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11 AM - 1 PM Thursday at the church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
