"Lorene" Brane, age 97, a resident of Inverness in Shelby County passed away on January 10th, 2018 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham. She was born Alice Lorene McLoud on February 2, 1920 in Berryville, Arkansas to Ernest and Vinnie McLoud. Later, the family relocated to Wichita, Kansas where she lived and grew up two doors away from the family of her future husband John E. Brane, Jr. (died – Dec. 2006). Mr. Brane's career with The Boeing Aircraft Company took the couple to homes in Seattle, Washington; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and then back to Wichita. After his retirement, the couple moved to Shell Knob, MO; Harlingen, TX; Fairhope, AL and finally 14 years ago to the Birmingham area. Lorene was frequently seen walking her black poodle "Buddy" and later her white rescue Bichon, "Millie" in the neighborhood and on golf car paths near her home in the Woodford Subdivision. She became familiar with golfers, golf course workers and neighbors on her frequent dog walks. Mrs. Brane enjoyed watching Fox News, Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, Judge Judy, The Lawrence Welk Show, Alabama Football (big fan of Nick Saban), Auburn Football (Gus Malzahn's gum chewing during games drove her nuts) and she took special glee in hanging up on telemarketers. She remained on top of local news and her own affairs right up until her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Virginia McLoud Burns, a grand-daughter Casey Brane and step-grandson, Paul Woodham. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Clifford and Julie Brane with whom she lived for the last 14 years and two grandsons, Grayson and Andrew Brane also of the family home in Woodford. Lorene is also survived by son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Susan Brane of Dadeville, AL as well as Mr. Woodham's daughters Kristi and Samantha and Olivia, daughter of Kristi. Other survivors include a cousin Tom Miller of Wichita, KS and sister-in-law Lois Brane of Wichita. The family will receive friends at the residence on January 21st from 1 to 3PM.
