Anthony "Lyle" Toepfer, 92, Hays, died Friday, February 19, 2021, at Hays Good Samaritan Society. He was born November 5, 1928, in Hays, the son of William A. and Celestine F. (Kuhn) Toepfer.

On June 16, 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary Alice Clark at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, and they celebrated 65 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on August 9, 2013.

In 1946, he graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy. He was an accountant and IT specialist at Midwest Energy for many years. Lyle was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays Area Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, Hays High Plains Barbershop, SPEBSQSA, and sang in the St. Joseph Church choir for 40 years. He was an avid bowler, became an avid golfer after his retirement, and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons: Bill Toepfer and wife Mary of Shawnee, Philip Toepfer and wife Laurie of Hays, Fr. John Toepfer, OFM Cap. of Colorado Springs, CO, Mark Toepfer and wife Sandy of Columbia, IL, and Patrick Toepfer and wife Stacy of Hays, a daughter-in-law: Mary M. Toepfer of Hays, 20 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Alice, a son: Tom Toepfer, a daughter: Kathleen C. Toepfer, five brothers: Irvin, Vernon, William Jr., Robert, and Larry Toepfer, and five sisters: Lillian Ward, Mildred Ruder, Laura Mae Dinges, Cecilia Bickle, and Janet Toepfer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. John Toepfer, OFM Cap. and Fr. Brian Lager officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
