Charles L. Fritz, 84, a retired bank executive, died February 11th at home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Kansas City, Kansas and moved to Soquel, California in 1947. After graduating from Santa Cruz High School, he attended Oregon State University on a NROTC scholarship and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity. After graduation in 1958, he served as an officer in the Navy for 3 years. He then enrolled in graduate school at UC Berkeley. After receiving an MBA degree in 1962, he started his banking career in Los Angeles.
His career included 18 ½ years at Barclays Bank of California, San Francisco, as executive vice president and senior lending officer. After the sale of Barclays to Wells Fargo in 1988, he served as executive vice president and chief credit officer at Westamerica Bank, San Rafael, until his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of the Robert Morris Associates, a national association of bank credit officers, where he served as president of the Northern California chapter, 1980-81, chairman of the 1983 Fall Conference in San Francisco, and as a national director, 1985-1988.
Charles is predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Jackie. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jack Cotta of Brentwood, son and daughter-in-law, John and Maida Fritz, of San Ramon, and grandchildren, Kevan and Sydney.
There will be a graveside gathering at Santa Cruz Memorial Oakwood in Santa Cruz. Memorial donations in his memory can be made to your favorite charity.
