Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 66 years, Marian E (nee Weisheit) Allen, in 2019.
Jim proudly served his country in the Army during WWII, as part of occupying forces in Japan at the end of the war. He retired in 1988 from Magnavox, after 32 years of service as an Electrical Engineer.
Jim and Marian were active members of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, where Jim contributed by selling Christmas trees, mowing grass and assisting behind the scenes. He and Marian enjoyed supporting the weekly fellowship dinners where they and others washed countless dishes. After retirement from Magnavox, Marian suggested that Jim might enjoy volunteering at Parkview Hospital and that suggestion led to 25 years of service to Parkview before he retired from volunteering at age 86.
Jim is survived by his sons, Bruce (Linda) Allen and David (Kathy) Allen; daughters, Susan (Thom) Allen and Beth (Doug) Opell; grandchildren Kelly (Jeremy) Hodson, Kevin Sweitzer, Annette (Milt) Sluder, Ryan Opell, Derek (Jamie) Allen, Alex Opell, Grace Saunders, Scott Opell, Marielle Saunders, and Michael Saunders; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Jaydin, Noah and Maggie.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Sweitzer; and brothers, Laughton and Donald Allen.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to Good Shepherd UMC. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne.
