John E Lockman, 83, of Country Squire Lakes near North Vernon died at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan 10, at the Indiana University Medical Center after an illness of eight weeks. Born March 12, 1902, in Jackson County, he was a son of the late Lewis and Rosa England Lockman. He married the former Florence Owens on March 25, 1942 in Jackson County, and she survives. Other survivors are three sons; Glen Lockman, Beech Grove; Raymond Lockman, Washington Court House, Ohio; and Andrew T Lockman, Brownstown; one daughter; Mrs. Mary Hanners, Clarksville, Ohio; two sisters; Mrs. Hazel Weddle, Brownston; and Mrs. Bruce Henderson, Cambridge, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Mr. Lockman was a retired railroad mail clerk and farmer. He was a member of Washington Lodge 13 F & AM in Brownstown, the Seymour York Rite, and the Royal Arch Masons at Seymour. He received the York Cross of Honor and served as past master. He was also a member of the order of the Eastern Star No. 264, Brownstown. Funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13 at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown, with Doug Nuss officiating. Burial will be in the Clearspring Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, Jan 12, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Monday. A Masonic service will be conducted by Washington Lodge at 8 p.m. Sunday.
