Passed away from a rare cancer on Thursday, February 11 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Raised in the small town of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Marie very early developed the attributes for which she was known: intelligence, a hard work ethic, empathy, friendliness, creativity, persistence, helping others, and a big, genuine, friendly smile. As a small girl she helped her parents operate a farm that raised pigs, black angus cattle and produce. With her mother, Marie sold vegetables from the back of a truck, learning sales tactics that served her well throughout her various careers.
Marie’s college years were filled with parties and social activities as well as a degree in nutrition. Her love of socialization and interacting with people, as well as her love of outdoor activities and traveling lasted throughout her life.
After her residency at Barnes Hospital and acquisition of her dietitian’s license, she launched the first of her many unconventional careers. In 1971 Marie created a position for a dietitian within a group physician practice (25 doctors), selling the group on their need for her services and then proving her value to their company.
Marie founded the two-year dietetic technology curriculum for St. Louis Community College; she staffed the program, managed it, and taught for 10 years. She also created the St. Louis County sanitation accreditation program for food service managers. Later she branched out into private practice with Pat Perotti. Together they served private clients, long term care and other health care facilities, school food service organizations, as well as physicians who required assistance with particularly troublesome nutrition-based patient complaints (Marie always loved solving puzzles.) In her last career Marie assisted the institutional food service company PFG to broaden their sales within the health care industry.
Marie leaves behind her husband of 50 years, Dave, their son Collin and his wife Sarah, and their three children Lilly, Zane, and Willow. Marie also leaves nieces, a nephew, cousins, and hundreds of friends who will miss her sparkling personality.
