Ron enlisted in the U.S. Air Force right out of high school. He served two tours in Germany and one tour in Turkey. The remainder of his service was in the States, retiring in New Mexico after 22 years of service. He was the superintendent of Weston Cemetery for 20 years, retiring in 2016. Ron was a member of the Executive Board and served as the Finance Officer of American Legion Post #29 in Rensselaer. He was a former member of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, and VFW. He was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Rensselaer.
Ron loved playing golf and was a former member of Curtis Creek Country Club. He was a big fan of IU sports. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters; two sisters; two brothers; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rollanda DeMoss; and brother-in-law, John Barrett Sr.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 from 1-5 PM at Steinke Funeral Home in Rensselaer. A private family funeral service with military honors will follow at 5 PM with Pastor Randall Gann officiating. Private burial will be at Weston Cemetery on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2 PM.
