Gene Edward Robertson, 76, passed away at Simon Cancer Center, IU Health, Indianapolis, Indiana on February 14, 2021.

Gene was proud to be called a "firecracker" due to his birth on the Fourth of July 1944. He was the third son of Chester and Mamie Walker Robertson, joining his two older brothers, Howard "Pog" and Robert "Lefty" Robertson. Gene's mother passed away when he was 8 years old. His father later married Margaret Walker who was a loving stepmother to Gene until her death in 1961.

Gene graduated from Hauser High School in 1962.

During his teen and early adult years, Gene worked at the family store, Robertson's Auto Supply in Columbus, Indiana. He worked for a short time for an auto parts wholesaler in Indianapolis, then started his own business, Robertson Painting. On October 26, 1979, Gene joined the Columbus, Indiana Fire Department. He retired from CFD on May 12, 2000.

Gene was an avid motorcyclist and in the early 1970's raced professionally on flat tracks throughout the Midwest and rode recreationally for many years.

Gene was a member and Past Master of Hope Masonic Lodge.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, Chester, his mother, Mamie, his stepmother, Marg and his brothers Howard and Robert.

Gene is survived by a son, Steve Frazee (Kem) of Evansville and a daughter, Kathy Despain, three grandchildren: Dustin Robertson, Madisyn Frazee, Andy Frazee; 2 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews: Conrad Robertson (Irma), Debbie Martin, Craig Robertson (Joetta), Mark Robertson, Cheryl Gorman, Karen Davis (Tony). He is also survived by Diane Pumphrey Robertson Beck, mother of Kathy and by former wife and friend, Donna Robertson.

Visitation will be at Norman Funeral Home in Hope, Indiana from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Sunday, February 21, 2021 and noon to 1:00 pm on Monday, February 22, 2021. A private service will be held with Steve Pumphrey officiating. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery. Please follow social distancing guidelines and masks are required when inside the funeral home.

There will be a celebration of life when the current situation subsides and warmer weather arrives.

Donations in Gene's name can be sent to the Fireman's Cheer Fund.
