A. T. Crabtree, an old resident of Galena, died at 6:40 a. m., on New Year's day, aged 61 years, 5 months and 6 days. He was born in Jonesville, Lee county, VA., moved to Estill county, KY., when quite young. He was married at 21, his first wife living only a few months. May 20th, 1878, while yet in Kentucky, he was married to Lina Estes, who with six children survives him.
Mr. Crabtree came to Kansas and settled in Galena in 1880. Until his health failed he was engaged in mining and was known as an industrious and respected citizen. Although confined to his bed the last three weeks, Mr. Crabtree had been unable to work for nearly a year, suffering with what is known as miner's consumption.
During the war Mr. Crabtree served four years as a member of the Fourth Kentucky cavalry (Confederate) and was for a time Sergeant Major. The funeral was held from the family residence Sunday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. South, the very large attendance testifying to the universal esteem in which deceased and family were held.
