OBITUARY: Menomonee Falls News Sept 9, 1927 "Mrs. C. G. Birkhauser (nee Clara Fuss) Dies. Last Surviving Daughter of Fussville's First Settler. Following a prolonged illness which she bore with great patience and fortitude, the angel of death came to relieve Mrs. C. G. Birkhauser, (Nee Clara Fuss) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred J. Schmidt, in the town of Menomonee, Sunday Sept 4. She had attained the ripe old age of 78 years. Deceased was one of two children of Henry and Christina (Esser) Fuss, who came here from Germany in the year 1844 and was the first settler in what is now the parish of Fussville.
She married C. G. Birkhauser Jun 10, 1881, also a son of a pioneer family and of this union three children, with her husband survive to mourn the loss of a truely christian wife, and mother, a kind neighbor and faithful friend. The children are Mrs. Fred J. Schmidt, Mrs. John Becker of Menomonee and Mrs. Otto Ramstack of Brookfield. The last rites for the departed were held Wednesday morning from the residence to St. Mary's Church in the village. Rev. A. M. Dentinger officiating. Interment was at the family lot at St. Mary's Cemetery."
